Mediapro’s president Jaume Roures has revealed that the Téléfoot channel launched in already has 600,000 subscribers.
Speaking at a press conference in Paris and quoted by Le Figaro, he also tried to reassure French football in the dispute surrounding the rights to Ligue 1 for the period 2020-2024.
Although Mediapro holds the rights, it has indicated that is unable to make the first payment of €172 million to the French Professional Football League (LFP).
Roures said that Mediapro’s Chinese shareholder Orient Hontai Capital supports the group and he sees no reason a solution cannot be found to the dispute.
The contract will remain valid as the project is for four years, though there should be adaptation to the situation this season.
At the time of their launch, Mediapro estimated that the Téléfoot channel would need 3.5 million subscribers to break even.
