Estonia’s Levira has taken the next step to broadcasting sports games on TV and the web with the help of artificial intelligence (AI).
In a statement, it says that it has launched sport.television.ee, which will initially focus on ball games from Estonia and further afield and will expand to include other sports in the future. Commenting on the development, Edgar Pohjamets, Levira’s media services sales manager, said: “The mission of the portal is to support Estonian sports, because so far no web environment has brought together so many Estonian sports competitions, including youth leagues and games, on one platform. On the portal, all sports fans, parents, coaches and athletes can watch games of different levels. We can also see that in case of possible corona restrictions, sports fans will still have the opportunity to live in sports competitions without leaving home”.
Levira has used a unique network of fully automatic, AI cameras in Estonia since last year.
Pohjamets added: “Already last year, we produced AI-camera broadcasts of Paf Estonian-Latvian Basketball League games, women’s Baltic Elite division and international division games, as well as lower leagues such as Saku I and II leagues and G4S youth leagues in both Estonia and Latvia”.
Most of the portal’s content will be available free of charge until the end of the year. In the case of VTB (basketball) games, dynamic pricing with a ticket price between €2 and €5.50 will be applied this month, depending on the moment of ticket purchase.
