Increased investment in the UK as a production hub has led Netflix to take on a new lease for an expanded London office.
Sources close to the deal have told Broadband TV News that the new office space in The Copyright Building on Berners Street would be in addition to the current building in nearby Mortimer Street, which would also be retained. In all Netflix would have 100,000 square feet available.
However, staff are unlikely to move to the new building until 2022 while a refurbishment takes place.
A spokesperson for Netflix told Broadband TV News: “As part of our ongoing commitment to the UK, we are excited to expand our operations in London through the lease of additional office space. It will ensure that we can better serve our members and the local creative community, including investing in stories like The Crown, Sex Education, Rebecca and Too Hot To Handle, that are made in the UK and watched by the world”.
In all 50 shows are currently produced in the UK with a new production hub at Shepperton Studios in Surrey.
Netflix has 269 employees in the UK.
