Mediapro’s president Jaume Roures has indicated that he will lower the value of the TV rights contract with the French Professional Football Association (LPF).
According to L’Equipe and Le Figaro, it was signed in May 2018 and is worth €3.1 billion for four seasons between 2020-2024, or €780 million a year for Ligue 1 and €34 million for Ligue 2.
Mediapro snatched the rights from under the nose of Canal+ and the deal effectively increased LFP’s revenues by 60%.
Writing in L’Equipe, Roures said that football has been seriously affected by Covid-19.
Both publications note that LFP has been left with little room for manoeuvre.
