Canal Plus has met with members of French media regulator CSA to discuss its further distribution on the French DTT network (TNT).
Canal was the only candidate for the slot allocated to a pay-TV operator.
In a statement issued following his meeting Canal+ Group CEO Maxime Saada said TNT was a reflection of the historic advantages of Canal+ that had either disappeared or become a straitjacket that the group was now forced to hang on to.
Saada wants the restoration of the beneficial VAT rate the company enjoyed through until 2011 and an end to the tax on hard drives within digital video recorders.
DTT represents just 400,000 out of the paycaster’s 8.2 million subscribers. Some French departments have as few as 100 DTT households.
The new term begins on December 6, 2020.
