The social value of linear TV services came to the fore during the coronavirus lockdown in Poland, according to Dorota Zurkowska-Bytner, a member of the board at TVN Grupa Discovery.
Speaking in a panel discussion at the PIKE 2020 Online Conference, she added that OTT services should be seen as complementary to linear TV.
Meanwhile, Bogdan Bucurei, CMO UPC Polska, said that Poland shares similarities with other European markets in terms of FTA services, with its media market comparable in size to that of the Netherlands.
He added that while there is also too much FTA in Poland, the real issue in the future will be finding the right mix between linear and OTT.
Bucurei also said that UPC Polska does not currently offer AVOD and suggested the possibility of offering customers ad-free channels or an additional fee.
