Katharina Behrends leaves NBC Universal Global Networks

September 29, 2020 21.15 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

After 15 years – and since 2008 at its head – managing director Katharina Behrends is leaving NBC Universal Global Networks Deutschland at her own request to take on new professional challenges.

Behrends has driven the expansion of the NBC Universal (NBCU) brands, first in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and then in 10 other countries in the Benelux and CEE states. The media company’s portfolio includes pay-TV channels Universal TV, 13th Street, SYFY and E! Entertainment as well as SVOD services SYFY Horror and Studio Universal Classics.

“We respect the decision by Katharina Behrends. Over the past 15 years, she has made a significant contribution to the success of pay-TV in the German-speaking countries and beyond. I would like to thank Katharina for her extraordinary commitment and the great passion with which she has worked for her team and the NBCU channel brands. I wish her all the best and much success in her future professional and personal career,” said Devesh Raj, CEO of parent company Sky Deutschland.

Behrends added: “After 15 years, my decision has not been easy. At NBC Universal, I had the opportunity to play a crucial role in shaping the transformation of our business into the world of digital offerings, also on an international level, and to develop the company in a commercially successful way. It was a great and inspiring task, which I enjoyed taking on with great pleasure. With these experiences, it is now time for me to take on new challenges. I would like to thank my great employees and I thank the Sky management team for their great support and the always very professional and pleasant cooperation.”

The successor is to be announced in the near future.
