Canal+ is taking its dispute with Mediapro to the courts, claiming the holder of the rights to France’s topflight football has treated it unfairly.
It a statement Canal said the conditions imposed by the Mediapro Group on the Canal+ Group are near impossible and aim to exclude it from the “particularly attractive” football offer put forward by Telefoot.
The Spanish media group launched the Telefoot in August after winning the rights to Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.
Subscribers pay €25.90 per month for the channel that also has the rights to the French championships and European cup competitions.
SFR and Free both hold distribution deals.
Previously, Canal+ was seen as the leader for premium sports content, with Bein, and RMC also contenders.
A first hearing is scheduled for September 24, 2020.
