Court TV, one of the classic brands of US cable TV, is to launch in the UK market.
The UK version will be able to screen US daytime court coverage live in primetime from the opening proceedings through to the verdict, along with expert analysis.
Its received carriage on Sky (channel 179) with more distribution agreements in the works.
“There’s been nothing like Court TV in the United Kingdom until now,” said Jonathan Katz, president and CEO of Katz Networks, which owns Court TV. “American crime dramas have long been a staple on television worldwide, including the UK, while global consumer interest in the real-life drama of true-crime programming has skyrocketed, with American reality crime content as the most-watched. Court TV is the only network covering these cases and these events live, as they happen, from start to finish. We anticipate viewers in the UK will embrace having a front-row seat to American criminal justice.”
The original Court TV ran in the United States for two decades to 2008, when it was rebranded as Tru TV. Katz Networks and Scripps rebooted Court TV in May 2019, saying it provided transparency into the US justice system.
