Zattoo launches via HbbTV OpApp on Panasonic TVs

September 8, 2020 11.55 Europe/London By Broadband TV News Correspondent

The owners of Panasonic smart TV sets in Germany and Switzerland can now choose Zattoo as their main TV reception method, with the Zattoo user interface being set as the standard.

This is made technically possible by the HbbTV Operator App, which Zattoo uses as the first OTT provider. The streaming service will be integrated into all 2020 OLEDs and LCDs from Panasonic from the HXW804 series upwards.

With Zattoo, viewers can receive over 100 TV channels via the internet in Germany and more than 250 in Switzerland. The app can be used free of charge; subscription packages are also available.

With the HbbTV OpApp, Zattoo can be used as the TV reception standard – as an alternative or addition to cable, satellite and DTT. After closing another app or when pressing the TV button on the remote control, the user always returns to the Zattoo user interface.

“What may look like a small technical detail at first glance is symbolic of what we have been working towards at Zattoo for 15 years: On the television set, TV streaming is an equivalent reception method to satellite or cable TV,” said Jörg Meyer, chief officer content & consumer at Zattoo.

Dirk Schulze, head of product marketing TV/home AV at Panasonic Deutschland, added: “Panasonic is a leading player when it comes to flexible TV reception. To this end, we cooperate with a large number of providers ensuring a tailored offer for all customers. The integration of Zattoo as an HbbTV Operator App on our current TV models makes watching TV via streaming apps even more convenient.”
