TVPlayer signs multiyear deal with ViacomCBS

September 2, 2020 08.01 Europe/London By Julian Clover

TVPlayer has agreed a new multiyear carriage agreement for eight ViacomCBS Networks UK channels.

It covers Channel 5 and sister free-to-air channels 5USA, 5Star, 5Select and Paramount Network alongside pay channels MTV, Comedy Central and Comedy Xtra. The agreement, which includes both catch-up and linear broadcasts, brings the number of channels carried by TVPlayer to 50.

Barry Llewellyn, Managing Director, TVPlayer said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer our viewers some of ViacomCBS’s most popular channels as part of TVPlayer’s overall bouquet. We’ve listened to our viewers and we’re pleased to be in a position to offer them the programmes they want, when they want them, at an appropriate price point.”

TVPlayer has 2.6 million registered users in the UK, and 50,000 subscribers, watching on the web and on native apps. Subscribers pay £6.99 for a bundle of 18 pay channels.

Arran Tindall, Chief Commercial Officer, EVP, Commercial & Content Distribution at ViacomCBS Networks International said: “We’re always looking to support new distribution partners and to reach and engage new audiences. TVPlayer is an estalished OTT platform in the UK and we’re delighted to be providing our most recognisable brands and channels for their customers to enjoy.”

Last September, TVPlayer was acquired by the French content aggregation company Alchimie.
