Sky Italia’s place at Eutelsat’s premier European neighbourhood has been assured after the pay-TV operator renewed its contract with the satellite company.
The €450 million contract spans 2021 when two new generation satellites will be launched to the Hotbird neighbourhood.
“This agreement ensures long term service continuity for the millions of households in Italy which depend on satellite to receive television, and highlights the key role of satellite for broadcast distribution in Western Europe, today and in the future, by providing reach beyond the limits of terrestrial networks,” said Eutelsat CEO Rodolphe Belmer.
“We are glad to continue working with Eutelsat, one of the world’s leading satellite operators, that has supported Sky since its inception. This agreement represents the latest step in a long and successful partnership that has lasted for many years,” added Maximo Ibarra, CEO, Sky Italia.
Sky Italia and its predecessors have been at the 13 degrees East position since 2003. It currently serves 5 million households.
