Apple is reportedly preparing an upgrade to its Apple TV box, including a faster processor.
September is traditionally the time when the Cupertino company releases new product. In the next few weeks new iPhones will be shipped, while Mac desktop users will be able to download Big Sur, the latest iteration of its operating system.
However, the new Apple TV is unlikely to debut until next year, reports Bloomberg quoting people familiar with its development. The new processor will enhance the gaming experience and Apple’s Arcade platform.
The box will also come with an upgraded remote control, replacing the ‘Siri’ unit that has sat alongside the technology since 2015. The thin black remote has never been popular, both in terms of functionality, and its ability to get lost in the sofa.
Earlier this year Apple combined its Apple TV and HomePod engineering teams and the two products now share a single software stack.
