Vectra to pioneer “elastic platform”

August 27, 2020 12.45 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Poland’s leading cable operator Vectra will shortly launch an IP-based “elastic platform” that offers the best features of digital TV, online TV and Android TV multimedia devices.

The first such service in the country, it will offer customers thousands of 4K videos, along with games that can be shown on all TVs and other devices with screens, as well as the possibility to use the largest media streaming platforms.

Vectra customers are currently testing a Google-certified set-top box, offering the user all the capabilities of the Android ecosystem. This includes access to all additional services they can use on the smartphone, such as voice assistant or support for advanced games and applications.

According to Tomasz Zuranski, president of the management board of Vectra, “for many years, television or cable operators saw internet services as a kind of competition or even a threat. We believe that an operator should not make decisions for its customers. Our role is to provide customers with the most convenient solutions so that they can freely decide how to use entertainment services in general – we believe that the future lies in synergy – telecommunications, television, video or gaming services. Such opportunities are provided by Android TV, and thanks to its integration with digital television we will get the most modern home entertainment platform on the market”.

Vectra says that the new platform will provide all its previously offered and new services including linear channels and advanced EPG, together with the possibility of video search based on preferences and individual taste; catch-up; start-over; VOD; and multiscreen.

It adds that more details about its new offer will be presented soon and it is currently collecting feedback from users in Pozna?, Tricity and Lublin.

Separately, Vectra has also announced that it will add a fourth 4K channel to its offer (Insight TV) in the next few days.
