Almost half (46%) of the time Czechs spend watching TV is devoted to films and series.
Furthermore, according to the findings of a study published by AtMedia, they spend 12% of their time watching news, from major programmes to weather reports to news magazines.
The study notes that almost 70% of Czechs watch TV daily and on average for 3.5 hours each day.
According to Pavel Müller, AtMedia’s head of research and marketing, “The Czechs were, are and will be a nation of serial and film fans. This can also be seen in the increase in the number of serial and film thematic channels, which go to the audience with their content offer. The popularity of these television channels is constantly growing.
“In addition to series and movies, entertainment programmes are also popular on TV channels – from various talk shows to competitions to reality shows, to which viewers devote 14% of the total time spent in front of TV screens”.
AtMedia notes that while the share of viewing time for films and series and news is little changed on that 10 years ago. However, there has been a shift towards entertainment programmes, which now enjoy more popularity.
AtMedia also says that while there is little difference in the viewing habits of men and women. Likewise, films and series are the most popular genres among all age groups, though in particular those aged 15-34. They spend 54% of their viewing time watching films and series, while at the same time devoting only 7% to news.
AtMedia represents 29 thematic TV channels on the Czech market.
