TVP secures DTT capacity

August 4, 2020 09.49 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Polish public broadcaster TVP has signed a deal with the national transmission company Emitel for distribution of its channels on the country’s third multiplex (MUX-3).

The contract between the two parties, which is valid for 10 years, covers not only the TV broadcasting but also the change to the DVB-T2 standard to be implemented in 2022.

Commenting on the development, TVP’s acting president Jacek Kurski said: “I am glad that a new contract has been signed with Emitel, our long-term proven partner.

“By concluding a long-term contract for digital broadcasting of TVP’s programmes from the third multiplex, we implement the mission of a public broadcaster by guaranteeing viewers free access to our programmes throughout Poland. By continuing our cooperation with Emitel, we also provide Poles with universal access to the latest technologies, such as hybrid television, and the further development of digital terrestrial television by changing the broadcasting standard within two years. Thanks to this, viewers will be able to enjoy free access to more attractive content in the best quality – both broadcast in HD and 4K – offered by TVP”.

Andrzej J. Kozlowski, president of the management board of Emitel, added: “The conclusion of a new 10-year contract and continuation of cooperation with our strategic partner TVP is a very important event for Emitel. It is also an opportunity to jointly develop digital terrestrial television, which is very popular among Polish viewers. The target change of the broadcast standard to DVB-T2 / HEVC will allow the broadcaster to develop a content distribution platform that will benefit viewers in Poland”.
