SPI/FilmBox debuts Filmstream on Samsung TV Plus

FilmstreamSPI/FilmBox announced that their new ad-based digital channel Filmstream makes its worldwide debut with a launch on Samsung TV Plus in the UK.

Filmstream is the newest addition to SPI’s expansive streaming portfolio and currently features a broad selection of independent movies and world cinema classics.

“The rise of on-demand content consumption has left some viewers with the need to unwind and embrace the laid-back viewing experience of linear TV. The addition of Filmstream to Samsung Electronics’ new generation video service Samsung TV Plus, will offer viewers the optimal laid-back entertainment experience through the convergence of traditional and digital television,” said Guney Yasavur, COO at SPI International.

“At SPI International, we work towards creating innovative, tailor-made solutions that cater to different consumer needs. Over the years, we have achieved great success in the linear advertising business through our customer-centric approach which continues to remain a focal point in all our endeavors pertaining to online and digital media,” continued Yasavur.

Viewers in the UK are able to watch Filmstream via Samsung TV Plus which comes automatically installed on all 2016-2020 Samsung Smart TVs and offers over 50 channels to users across news, sports, entertainment, and more.

“I am very happy to have signed our first deal for Filmstream with our long-term partner Samsung Electronics,” said Georgina Twiss, MD Western Europe & Africa at SPI International.

“Through this partnership, movie lovers of all ages will be able to enjoy a great line-up of acclaimed world cinema classics through their Samsung Smart TVs.”

Filmstream’s current catalogue includes independent world cinema gems and classic movies from iconic directors such as Hitchcock, Kurosawa, Fellini and many others. The channel plans to expand its line-up with Hollywood blockbusters and popular hits in the future.

“I am delighted to announce the debut of the Filmstream channel on Samsung TV Plus in the UK. Film lovers can now immerse themselves in an array of World Cinema, arthouse and independent movies all free of charge within Samsung TV Plus,” said Richard Jakeman, European Head of Business Development – Smart TV.

SPI/FilmBox and Samsung Electronics had previously partnered to bring linear channels and VOD content from major distributors to Samsung Smart TVs via SPI’s content service, FilmBox Live.
