Fremantle, ITV Studios, BBC Studios pull out of MIPCOM 2020

July 29, 2020 07.39 Europe/London By Robert Briel

A growing number of distributors and broadcasters is deciding against physical presence at MIPCOM 2020 in Cannes.

Fremantle, A+E Networks, Beyond Distribution, BBC Studios will only take part in the online version of the market, while ITV Studios will host its own digital event.
The announcements follow the news that Reed-MIDEM said that the 2020 editions of MIPCOM and the MIPJunior will take place as both a physical gathering in Cannes and as a hybrid digital gathering online.

“In order to give certainty to customers and colleagues, we have now confirmed that while BBC Studios will not have a physical presence at Mipcom 2020, we will be fully supporting the event through digital delivery,” according to na BBC spokesperson.

“We will share further details of our slate and activity in the weeks ahead. We look forward to returning to MIPCOM in 2021.”

A+E Networks is “planning a robust virtual presence in coordination and partnership with Reed-MIDEM, including virtual engagements with and for clients”.

“Although we will not have a physical presence at MIPCOM this year, we look forward to showcasing our incredible slate through an enhanced digital experience,” said a Fremantle spokesperson.

The inaugural ITV Studios Fall Festival will be a series of virtual content and production sessions for buyers held over three weeks from 14 September 2020.

Ruth Berry, Managing Director, Global Distribution and Maarten Meijs, President Global Entertainment at ITV Studios said, “The ITV Studios Fall Festival will be an unmissable event for our buyers, from enhanced one-to-one meetings to fully produced content sessions.

“It will be a fitting extension to our must-attend Spring Drama and Formats Festivals as well as the Non-Scripted Carbon Neutral Factual Screenings launched earlier this year. We promise to deliver it all in the inimitable style our clients are accustomed to, a valuable experience for them as they look to plan their schedules for 2021 and beyond.”

MIPCOM 2020 will take place between October 12 and 15 and will be preceded by MipJunior the weekend of October 10 and 11.
