GolfTV launches in Russia

July 26, 2020 09.06 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Media Alliance and Rostelecom have introduced the Discovery channel GolfTV to viewers in Russia.

As of July 22, it has been available exclusively to subscribers to the interactive TV and video service Wink.

Commenting on the development, general director of Media Alliance Grigory Lavrov, said: “This is an event for which we have been preparing for a long time – Russia has become the first market for Discovery, Inc., where GolfTV is launched as a linear channel. And I am glad that this launch is taking place jointly with Rostelecom. Thus, we continue to develop our long-term strategic partnership. The broadcasting of the channel coincides with the resumption of world tournaments, and I am sure it will be a pleasant gift for all golf lovers. For example, the British Masters European Tour kicks off on July 22 and will be broadcast live on GolfTV”.

Alexander Kosarim, director of content policy at Rostelecom, added: “We are pleased to present to all Russian golf fans the first professional TV channel, which is 100% dedicated to their favorite game. Golf must be able to show and competently comment, this is what GolfTV does with consistently high quality. This sport has very loyal fans, whose number in our country is increasing every year. As the saying goes, if you are into golf, then this is for life. I hope that this rule will apply to the new TV channel – golf fans will be happy to start watching GolfTV and it will become their habit forever”.

Media Alliance is a joint venture between the National Media Group (NMG) and Discovery. It distributes Discovery, Turner and Star Media channels in Russia.
