Euronews has decided to retain rather than sell its Africanews service.
However, reports Satellifax, it will move its production to the company’s headquarters in Lyon.
Africanews was launched in early 2016 and has until now been based in Pointe-Noire in the Republic of Congo.
Employing 54 people, including 21 journalists, it reaches 21 million households across the continent. Although Euronews initially agreed to sell Africanews to a group named Sipromad, the deal fell through and the two parties are now in litigation.
The move from Pointe-Noire to Lyon will take place at the end of this month and should result in a reduction in costs of at least 30%.
Euronews will afterwards continue to look for a partner to operate its African service.
