MIPCOM to take place as a live event in Cannes

July 6, 2020 10.00 Europe/London By Robert Briel

REED MIDEM has announced that the 2020 editions of MIPCOM and the MIPJunior will take place as both a physical gathering in Cannes and as a hybrid digital gathering online.

“The safety of our attendees and staff is our top priority,” REED MIDEM said in a statement.

“To ensure we can gather safely in Cannes, Reed MIDEM and our event partners will have in place rigorous guidelines and advanced safety measures throughout the Palais des Festivals and all of our event venues.”

MIPCOM aims to help buyers and distributors make up for lost time by showcasing the most new content including finished series, and shows in production or in development. The new MIPCOM GLOBAL UPFRONTS will feature multiple days of showcases and screenings covering the best new offerings from Hollywood, the Euro Majors, and International Selections.

MIPCOM 2020 will push beyond physical boundaries with the first ONLINE+ Digital Hybrid Edition designed to support buyers and participants who can’t travel at this time to connect from home and for participants in Cannes to connect with those at home.

The MIPJunior digital library will go ONLINE starting a full two-weeks prior to the market. Once onsite in Cannes, people can screen anywhere using their own laptop or signing in to a limited number of viewing terminals. The screening rooms will operate with strict hygiene and physical distancing protocols in place. Post market, the library will stay online for nine months.

In a relat6ed development, Sky Group Chief Executive Jeremy Darroch will receive the first MIP SDG Award for Climate Action and Protection of the Oceans in recognition of Sky Group’s track record in setting the highest standards in sustainability and action on environmental issues.
