A major frustration for users of the Apple TV 4K box is to be resolved with an upgrade to the operating system later this year.
In a story first reported by to5Mac, it’s emerged that the new tvOS 14 will make it possible to play YouTube videos in “full 4K.”
The move could be down to a change in codecs. Apple has previously stuck to a maximum resolution of 1080p, refusing to support the VP9 codec that has been the basis of the YouTube 4K library. However with Apple noting the change applies “only to latest YouTube videos” it could just as easily be a change on Google’s side.
