Sky has launched a scheme that allows owners of older Sky Q boxes to upgrade to one compatible with the HDR format.
The broadcaster has already begun to transmit content in HLG HDR, developed by the BBC and NHK, on its newly launched Sky Nature channel.
It plans to include more as part of its Sky Originals and on the Sky Cinema channels. Netflix and Disney are also expected to add
In order to qualify Sky subscribers need to hold a Ultra HD or Q experience subscription, a Sky Q box with model number 32B0xx [your editor has such a receiver] and a High Dynamic Range HLG enabled TV.
Sky is charging customers £50 for a self-set up with additional charges payable if its necessary for an engineer to call.
A timeline for when subscribers can expect their box to be upgraded hasn’t been released.
