HbbTV to launch webinar series on TV and OTT developments

June 1, 2020 20.07 Europe/London By Broadband TV News Correspondent

The HbbTV Association will offer a series of webinars covering current issues, solutions and developments in the TV and OTT market.

Each of the eight webinars, taking place in the next 12 months, will focus on a specific topic and include a presentation by an industry expert followed by Q&A with participants. The format will be a 60-minute session in English language with free registration and a full replay offered after the live webcast.

“Following the cancellation of the HbbTV Symposium and Awards 2020 due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the webinar series will provide an alternative platform to catch up with the latest developments in the converging broadcast and broadband industry and the solutions HbbTV offers broadcasters, operators and manufacturers to provide viewers with a compelling TV experience,” said Vincent Grivet, Chair of the HbbTV Association.

“The global HbbTV community will also gain first-hand examples of landmark HbbTV deployments, game-changing solutions bridging the TV and OTT world as well as specification updates and new developments,” added Grivet.

1st webinar: “HbbTV – Overview and application examples” with Klaus Merkel, IRT

The first webinar of the new series will give an overview over the background and core technical concept and elements of HbbTV. It introduces the set of currently available HbbTV specifications and their areas of application. The current status of HbbTV in the market is described and a number of practical examples illustrates the wide range of HbbTV services which are offered in practice today based on the toolbox provided by the HbbTV standard.

The presentation will be held by Klaus Merkel, Senior Engineer at German broadcast technology research institute IRT. The webinar will take place on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 from 15.00 to 16.00 CEST. Free registration: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/6983952031664483597

2nd webinar: “HbbTV OpApp – Best practice report by HD+” with Wilfried Urner and Alexander Sacher, HD+

The second webinar of this new series hosted by the HbbTV Association will focus on the HbbTV OpApp specification. The presentation “HbbTV OpApp – Best practice report by HD+” will be held by Wilfried Urner, CEO and Alexander Sacher, CTO of HD+. The German TV platform HD+ was the first operator to roll out a virtual set-top box solution based on the HbbTV OpApp.

This webinar will give insights into the HD+ Operator Application, best practices and lessons learned. It will take place on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 from 14.00 to 15.00 CEST. Free registration: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/4080698175702325772
