Telia Company’s TV4 Media has picked up the exclusive rights to the UEFA Champions League in both Sweden and Finland between 2021 and 2024.
TV4 and premium offering C More have also succeeded in extending its rights to the Liga in both Sweden and Finland from 2021 to 2026.
In addition to TV4 and C More, Telia Company also owns the Finnish commercial broadcaster MTV.
“The UEFA Champions League has been at the top of our wish list of sports rights for a long time. This is the first example of how TV4 Media with Telia as our owner will raise the bar. The UEFA Champions League will be an important ingredient in creating Sweden’s and Finland’s best TV experiences,” said TV4 Media CEO Casten Almqvist. He described La Liga as a “very important element” in its football coverage.
The UEFA deal also includes the UEFA Super Cup played between the UEFA Champions League winner and the UEFA Europa League winner, as well as the UEFA Youth League tournament.
TV4 Media’s major rival in the acquisition of rights is NENT Group, which runs the popular Viaplay OTT platform.
