RCS&RDS (Digi) accounted for one in two pay-TV subscriptions in Romania at the end of 2019.
The findings of a report on the country’s electronic communications market by the regulator ANCOM show that at there were a total of 7.6 million pay-TV subscriptions as of last December, 5.4 million of which were cable.
RCS&RDS accounted for 53%, followed by Telekom (17%) and other providers (30%).
Other findings show that RCS&RDS also accounted for 53% of fixed internet subscriptions, followed by Telekom (21%) and other providers (26%).
There were 5.3 million fixed internet connections at the end of last year, or 4% more than 12 months earlier.
Almost three quarters (74%, or 3.9 million) offered speeds of 100Mbps or higher.
Meanwhile, revenues from the telecom sector increased by 3% in 2019 to RON16.5 billion, or €3.5 billion.
Mobile generated 39% of the total and the retransmission of TV programmes 14%.
On average, the monthly income from the telecom sector was RON71 per inhabitant.
