Three leading tech firms have given their backing to the release of MPEG-5 Essential Video Coding (EVC).
Huawei, Qualcomm and Samsung have issued a joint statement welcoming its publication.
The new coding standard was published at the end of last month.
It is designed to deliver 4K UHD video with greater compression and efficiency over the previous standard codec and enable more screens to display 8K, VR, AR and HDR content.
Huawei, Qualcomm and Samsung were all major contributors to the newly standardised technology and have reaffirmed their commitments to offer fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory terms for their respective essential patent claims covering the standard.
