Customer loss at YouSee after Discovery dispute

May 7, 2020 12.36 Europe/London By Julian Clover

TDC saw profits in its TV division fall by 12.7% year-on-year after YouSee’s high profile fall out with Discovery Channel.

The operator lost 61,000 TV subscribers after YouSee’s failed to get the US media giant to sign up to its plan to place Discovery and sister channels Kanal 9, Kanal 5 and 6, and Eurosport into an a la carte offer.

YouSee also lost mobile and broadband contracts associated with the TV customers. Ina statement the company said the losses were experienced early in the quarter and it expects the losses to normalise at the lower levels going forward.

The loss hit TDC’s Group revenue, which declined by 4.1% in the first quarter, and EBITDA that fell back by 2.0%.

During the Easter holidays TV offerings were temporarily expanded and YouSee has offered free data in Denmark for all mobile customers for the Summer period.
