German internet TV service waipu.tv gained around 44,200 new paying customers in Q1 2020.
This brings the total number of paying customers to around 452,500, as parent company Freenet announced in its quarterly figures report.
Freenet recorded a decline of 0.3% to 1.017 million paying customers for its commercial TV channel platform Freenet TV, which is distributed via DVB-T2 and the Astra satellite system (19.2° East).
It remains to be seen what effect the increase of the monthly subscription price from €5.75 to €6.99 will have. This came into effect on May 1, 2020.
The DTH satellite version of Freenet TV will be terminated at the end of 2020 due to a lack of customer demand. Freenet thus expects to lose around 14,000 DTH customers in the nine months until December 31.
