New sports channels for Slovakia

April 23, 2020 08.45 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Slovakia’s Council for Broadcasting and Retransmission (RVR) has granted the public broadcaster RTVS a licence to operate a national digital TV sports channel.

It has also granted Spravca SK a licence to operate such channel, named Sport Extra.

Other decisions made by the RVR in a meeting on April 22 include changing the type of licence held by Antik Telecom for the digital channel Mestská TV Svit from local to national and its name to Corona Virus Info TV.

Although there is as yet no indication as to when RTVS will launch its sports channel, preparations for the service are under way.

RTVS currently operates three national channels.
