German media company Freenet has shut down its teleshopping channel Freenet Shopping.
The channel used to be distributed via DVB-T2 and on the Astra satellite system at 19.2° East.
“Freenet AG confirms that the Freenet Shopping GmbH was discontinued as of April 2020,” a Freenet spokeswoman told Broadband TV News. “Freenet Group has decided not to pursue the teleshopping segment any further and to focus more strongly on other business areas.”
Freenet Shopping was launched in July 2018 on DVB-T2 platform Freenet TV and was broadcast – as well as via satellite – unencrypted.
“We anticipate that the free channel slot will be re-allocated shortly,” a spokesperson of Freenet TV operating company Media Broadcast told Broadband TV News. “We are already in negotiations with several interested parties.”
