Canal+ is refusing to pay the Professional Football League (LFP) the €110 million due for the broadcast rights to Ligue 1.
The payment is due on April 5.
In a letter obtained by sports publication L’Equipe, Maxime Saada, president of Canal+ writes to the LFP. “”It is not possible that we pay the future instalments, even though due to the suspension of the Ligue 1 championship, no match can be played and, consequently, broadcast on our frequencies”.
Canal shares the rights to the league with BeIN Sport, paying up to €762 million between 2016 and 2020.
It claims the March 13 suspension of the football league programme has reduced the attractiveness of its offer.
