Russian OTT platforms open up their services

March 17, 2020 07.29 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Most Russian OTT services have launched new promotions in the light of the coronavirus crisis.

According to Kommersant, these promotions, offered by amongst others ivi, Okko, Premier, Kinopoisk HD, Rostelecom’s Wink, National Media Group’s more.tv and tvzavr, are likely to offset a decline in subscription revenues by introducing new users to the services.

It adds that if coronavirus continues for another 3-4 months, they could boost the legal online video market by 15-20%.

Premier was the first to offer free access to content, though specifically that produced by Gazprom Media and not third parties.

Meanwhile, ivi is offering its service for only R1(€0.01) a month until mid-April and Okko its Optimum package free of charge for two weeks to users who are in quarantine.

Among the other providers, more.TV is making its content free for a month and tvzavr free for three months to new users.
