Virgin Media’s new build programme helped the Liberty Media cablenet grow subscriber numbers in 2019.
It added 154,000 new premises under the scheme in Q4 and 505,000 in 2019; The operator’s cumulative New Build now stands at 2.1 million.
Lutz Schüler CEO, Virgin Media, said: “This year we continue to solidify our speed leadership with the fastest rollout of gigabit connectivity in the UK and investment to expand our network footprint. To this end we urge the Government to continue its efforts to break down broadband building barriers – particularly with regards to expanding and extending business rate relief.”
Virgin is currently responsible for the delivery of broadband, video and fixed-line telephony services to 6.0 million cable customers and mobile services to 3.3 million subscribers.
Its customer base increased by 7,000 in 2019, despite a 9,000 customer loss in Q4. Growth in new build areas was eroded by subscriber erosion in its non-Lightning footprint.
It grew its cable ARPU by 1.6% to £52.44 after a UK price increase that was partially offset by continuing declines in phone usage.
