Oliver Dowden has been named as the new Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport in prime minister Boris Johnson’s cabinet reshuffle.
He replaces Nicky Morgan, who had been in place since July 2019, and continued after the December election.
Dowden is expected to follow the path of his predecessor including expanding Ofcom’s role to cover aspects of the internet and a review of public service broadcasting.
Dowden was previously Paymaster General and Minister for the Cabinet Office and Parliamentary Secretary at the Cabinet Office.
He was elected Conservative MP for Hertsmere in May 2015.
