Telekom Romania has claimed that the withdrawal of Discovery channels from its offer at the end of last year has had little impact on subscriber numbers.
Quoted by Ziarul Financiar, Andreas Elsner, the company’s executive director of residential marketing and sales, said that it saw from its IPTV database that the entire portfolio of Discovery channels had a declining audience.
Furthermore, 2% of its customers called Telekom after the contract with Discovery was broken, mainly because they saw that some programmes had changed.
Indeed, Telekom only lost 0.05%, or a few hundred, of its TV customers and this, added Elsner, fully justified its decision.
Elsner also criticised Discovery for being “super inflexible” during negotiations and claimed that had it acceded to Discovery’s demands it would have increased its monthly subscription fees by €2 rather than RON2 (€0.42) a month at the start of this year.
