A Madrid court has ruled in favour of Mediapro and dismissed an appeal by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) in connection with the blocking of the rights broker from bidding for the Copa del Rey final.
The Provincial Court of Madrid said that by excluding Mediapro, RFEF had abused a dominant position.
“The order issued by the Provincial Court is important because it dismantles the RFEF’s principal legal defense to exclude and marginalize the MEDIAPRO Group from its tenders and contracts,” said Mediapro in a statement.
Last May, Commercial Court No.12 admitted precautionary measures requested by Mediapro that would allow it to bid for the rights to the Spanish Cup Final. Instead, the RFEF decided to directly award the tender to a bidder whose offer did not reach the reserve price and failed to go to the second round.
MediaPro is involved in a number of disputes with the football authority.
The ruling is not subject to an appeal.
