FC Barcelona will launch a new OTT streaming service this spring.
SVG Europe reports that it will be named Barça TV+ and operate round-the-clock, offering users on demand highlights from first team matches, exclusive player interviews and archive footage.
It will also show live streams from first team press conferences, B team fixtures, and all women’s team home games.
Original content for the streaming service will be produced by the in-house production company Barça Studios, which also supplies the TV channel Barça TV.
Barça TV+ forms part of a new digital strategy that the club has just unveiled.
According to FC Barcelona, it currently generates more revenue than any other club in any other sport and this year expects to break the one billion mark in terms of revenue.
Unlike other clubs, it generates all of its revenue from the sports industry, and is now bolstering its digital strategy to compete against major corporations and content platforms in order to maintain its leadership position.
This new digital strategy involves a new evolution of the club’s revenue streams, whereby the digital business is to become one of its main sources of income in the coming years.
