The Russian OTT Okko service saw its turnover grow by 96% to R4.9 billion (€71.7 million) in 2019.
At the same time, reports Kommersant, its paying customer total reached 1.1 million a month.
It adds that Okko’s improved performance could have been helped by the sale of a stake in Rambler Group to Sberbank, which began to promote the service in its branches.
As of the end of 2019 Okko’s total monthly audience reached 2.8 million, up from 1.5 million a year earlier, while the average viewing time per month amounted to 7.5 hours.
Okko’s subscription revenues exceeded transactional ones for the first time in April 2019.
Drivers for revenue growth in 2019 were web and Android platforms, up 404% and 245% on a year earlier respectively.
At the same time, mobile devices grew fastest in terms of viewing volume, adding 120% in the number of units of content viewed.
