Digi inks key AMC and Discovery deals

January 2, 2020 13.33 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Digi Communications has signed an agreement with AMC Networks International – Central and Northern Europe (AMCNI CNE) for the distribution of nine of the latter’s channels in Hungary from this month.

Sport1, Sport2, AMC, Filmcafé, Spektrum, TV Paprika, Minimax and CBS Reality will be joined by JimJam, which will be available in Digi households in Hungary for the first time.

Commenting on the development, Levente B. Málnay, executive VP AMCNI CNE, said: “We are delighted to reassure viewers of Sport1, Sport2, AMC, Filmcafé, Spektrum, TV Paprika, Minimax and JimJam that they will continue to watch their favourite shows on Digi for years to come. We have a long history of working with Digi and this agreement will secure our business relationship for years to come”.

Dragos Spataru, MD of Digi Telecommunications and Services, added: Our plans have always been to provide our customers with the most advanced technologies at the most attractive prices and to offer a rich television channel selection where everyone can find the right content for them. Long-term partnerships, such as our renewed agreement with AMC, enable us to maintain this philosophy in the future and to move forward with this strategy in our key markets. Continuing our partnership with rich television content with AMC will benefit our Hungarian customers, for whom Digi will continue to provide one of the best pay-TV services in the local market”.

The agreement also covers Romania, where Minimax, TV Paprika and Filmcafé will continue to be offered to Digi customers. AMC and JimJam are also now available to Digi cable and DTH customers as of the beginning of this month.

Separately, Digi/RCS&RDS and Discovery Romania have signed a strategic agreement that includes the launch of HGTV, in addition to the premium content available on Eurosport 1, Eurosport 2, Discovery Channel, TLC and Travel Channel.
Commenting on the development, Andrey Stoychev, VP of business development, distribution, sports & commercial, Discovery CEEMCA, said: “We are pleased to extend the strategic partnership with Digi and bring HGTV together on the Romanian market, in addition to the content offer in the current portfolio. HGTV shows have been a real success among viewers, the content being tested this year on TLC, and the results were impressive. Starting with 2020, we want to increase the popularity of this new brand, bring it as close as possible to the viewers, and we are happy to have found a reliable partner in Digi to support this joint effort. At the same time, we will continue to grow our existing portfolio, with the aim of nurturing people’s passions in as many areas as possible: adventure and survival, extreme trades, family and relationships, extreme medical cases or travel. All this, together with our commitment to broadcast the most spectacular football competitions – English Premier League and FA Cup, the most appreciated tennis tournaments – Grand Slams and ATP – and the most complex experience of the Olympic Games”.

Serghei Bulgac, CEO of the Digi Group/RCS&RDS, added:”Digi has always looked at the possibilities of offering subscribers different content, which will satisfy tastes and needs in continuous transformation. We hope that our subscribers will find in the offer brought by the partnership with Discovery Romania those complementary contents that will give them an optimised experience, as close to their desires and preferences”.

HGTV and Eurosport 2 will only be available in the digital package, while Discovery, Travel Channel, TLC and Eurosport 1 will be offered in both digital and analogue packages.
