Three million homes and businesses can now access a full fibre broadband connection, more than double the equivalent figure from 2018.
Ofcom’s latest Connected Nations report also reveals the number of homes with access to superfast broadband, defined as at least 30 Mbps has increased by over 500,000 since last year.
However, the regulator notes that the pace of rollout has slowed now the technology is available to around 95% of the population.
Take up of full-fibre services varies between providers with those targeting specific building faring better than companies catering for the business community and deploying to a wider area.
On average Ofcom estimates the percentage of premises taking full-fibre services where they are available is around 30%.
Significantly, it is now estimated that as few as 155,000 homes are unable to access a decent fixed broadband service, subject to confirmation of individual premises coverage.
Around 53,000 premises are estimated to be unable to access either a decent fixed broadband service or get good 4G coverage indoors from any operator.
