Romanian pay-TV: the stats

The number of pay-TV subscribers in Romania fell by 0.1% in the first half of this year.

According to figures published by the regulator ANCOM, they amounted to 7.63 million, of which 5.36 million were subscribed to cable services, 2.13 million to DTH and 0.13 million to IPTV.

In urban areas, the pay-TV penetration rate was 105.8% per 100 households, while in rural areas it was 96.9% per 100 hundred households.

As of June 30, RCS&RDS claimed 51% of pay-TV subscribers. It was followed by Telekom Romania Group (18%), UPC (12%) and other providers (19%).

In the Romanian electronic communications market as a whole the revenues generated in the first half of the year amounted to RON8.07 billion (€1.69 billion), with TV broadcasting accounting for 14% of the total and increasing by over 5%.

Orange accounted for 39% of the total revenues and was followed by Vodafone (30%), Telekom (18%) and other providers (14%).
