Netflix regularly uses the 70% mark when quoting how many of its subscribers have viewed a particular title.
The streamer has not released details of how many cinema goers have seen its theatrical release.
Last week Nielsen said 17.1 million had watched The Irishman in the first five days of its release. 18% had watched the movie from start to finish compared to the 18% also for Bird Box and 11% for El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie.
Earlier this month Scorsese used Rolling Stone to make a plea to subscribers to use something larger than an iPhone with which to view his work “I would suggest, if you ever want to see one of my pictures, or most films – please, please don’t look at it on a phone, please. An iPad, a big iPad, maybe.”
