Delivering content is a big challenge in Brazil, which along with the two leading players is served by 6,000 ISP.
As a result, said Luiz Gewers, technical director at MultTV, there is a need to aggregate in order to reach a population of 220 million in which the average per capita income is only $500.
MultTV acts as such an aggregator, bringing together around 40 ISPs serving some 1 million subscribers in several locations including Sao Paulo.
It provides services to ISPs so they do not need a headend or to make a big investment.
Gewers also said that previous attempts to aggregate ISPs have failed in Brazil. It is not enough to give equipment to subscribers and it can take months ISPS to sign contracts with MultTV.
In fact, MultTV has to take them by the hand and explain everything. That is why it is working.
Broadband TV News notes that at IBC in September it was announced that MultTV has opted for Beenius, Verimatrix and AWS to upgrade its shared platform.
