Although Amazon Prime Video has more customers in Germany than Netflix, Netflix still leads the way in terms of actual usage.
The reason is the sharing of passwords with family members or friends, which increases the usage time, according to the latest report from analysis platform VOD Ratings compiled by German consulting and research group Goldmedia.
Amazon is the leading provider of subscription video-on-demand (VOD) services in Germany in terms of subscriber numbers with a market share of 47%, followed by Netflix with 36%, according to the figures. However, in terms of daily use, Netflix leads with a share of 59% compared to Amazon with 36%.
The reason for the discrepancy: In Germany, one Netflix subscription accounts for three users, while Amazon Prime Video has just two. Maxdome has 1.5 users per subscription.
Regarding subscription market shares, Sky Ticket ranks third behind Amazon and Netflix among the subscription-VOD providers (excluding sports services) with a share of 5.9%, followed by maxdome with 5.6%. In terms of daily use, Sky Ticket has a market share of 2.2% and maxdome 1.8%.
