Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) is investigating violations of the law On Advertising by the OTT service Okko.
Kommersant reports that they relate to broadcasts of the English Premier league during which commercials for the Olympus betting shop appeared.
It adds that the advertising of bookmakers is allowed only in registered media and the site okko.tv is not included in their number.
Significant, FAS’s action dates back to September 16, the same day Okko Sport received a certificate of media registration from the regulator Roskomnadzor.
However, Okko says the two are not related, with its application having been been filed earlier and the approval delayed due to minor technical issues.
The Search engine Yandex was faced with a similar action by FAS for advertising the bookmaker Fonbet during last year’s World Cup and won a court case this summer which FAS may now appeal.
