The National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) has ordered Telefónica pay €1.5 million after it was found to be in breach of one of the conditions of its merger with DTS (the former Sogecable).
At issue is the price charged to rival for the Movistar el Partidazo channel during the 2016/17 season.
The telco made the commitments during the 2015 acquisition.
CNMC says Telefónica incorrectly assigned fixed costs within its wholesale offer. The result that while Vodafone, Orange and Telecable, Telefónica paid less.
Telefónica has branded the fine excessive and has announced plans to appeal.
