The Russian mobile operator MTS has completed the construction of a backup teleport in Kazan to assist in the distribution of its satellite TV service.
According to Telecom Daily, its main ground-based satellite communications station is located in Moscow and Kazan is its second teleport.
Quoting Alexei Ivanov, director of satellite at MTS, it adds that it is currently the only operator in Russia with its own backup teleport and its own transport channels between the parent station and teleports.
This allows it to reduce costs and make high quality broadcasting available to viewers at an affordable price.
MTS had 752,000 subscribers to its satellite TV service as of the end of H1, or one and half times more than in the same period last year.
