Dutch cable operator Ziggo is launching its gigabit offering on October 15 in The Netherlands.
The roll-out will Strat in the cities of Utrecht, Vleuten, De Meern and Nieuwegein. Hilversum will come next at the end of November, with more cities and regions set to follow in 2020.
Ziggo currently provides actual download cable internet speeds of up to 500 Mbps for consumers and 600 Mbps for business connections, all running via Docsis 3.0. VodafoneZiggo announced in September that it had started conducting tests in an Utrecht neighbourhood using Docsis 3.1, which should allow speeds of up to 10 gigabit.
In the course of 2020, two thirds of VodafoneZiggo customers will be able to purchase internet subscriptions of up to 1 Gbps. The service will cover the cities and regions of Amsterdam, Apeldoorn, Arnhem, Eindhoven, Groningen, Nijmegen, Rotterdam, Tilburg and Wageningen.
