Orange has introduced the new Livebox 5 to customers with the combination of increased speeds and a reduced carbon footprint.
The French operator has reduced the amount of equipment it needs to deploy, eliminating the need for a separate router.
Livebox 5 provides a shared download speed within the home of up to 2 Gbit/s (and up to 600 Mbit/s upload). Up to 1 Gbit/s is offered per device.
Customers will receive the unit when signing up for the new Livebox Up offers and Open Up Fibre packs.
It also features what Orange is describing as Smart WiFi, which it says provides “an increasingly effective and stable connection”. It automatically selects the best channel to use for WiFi reception. WiFi repeaters are also available when required.
In addition, the Ma Livebox application makes it possible to control the connection time of each device on the network – helpful for keeping ‘Les Efants’ away from the smart phone.
Orange says with each generation it aims to reduce its equipment’s carbon footprint. Each year, 2.7 million Liveboxes are reused, and 100% of returned boxes are recycled. As a committed and responsible operator, Orange has decided to go one step further to control its environmental impact.
It believes the new generation will reduce the carbon footprint by a reduced 29%. This will be achieved through a 100% recycled plastic case, a lighter and more compact product, fewer electronic components and a new design allowing passive ventilation, without a fan.
